Young's Survivor Season Opinions
Survivor S1: South Africa
South Africa was my very first official Survivor LT, if one excludes the All-Starz seasons.
The tribe theme was Heroes vs. Villains, although the cast didn't do much to uphold those titles.
Since I was still using a Short-Term map for these seasons, all of the challenges were basically five-minutes long at most, so sessions went by quickly, as well as the season. The season started out strong, with a great cast and several strong alliances.
However, the season's twist ended up ruining several of those alliances, as it exposed a major alliance over at Waarheid (Heroes).
The twist was No Secrets, which basically meant everyone's vote from the previous Tribal Council would be revealed at the start of each session, as in WHO VOTED WHO. There were no Reward Challenges or Immunity Idols, which made it very dull, but made gameplay pure. Blindsides came by very often, with strong players such as Maddysduck and Losingdogs being eliminated in the first few tribals, despite being strong members in the group. However, at around merge, players got more and more inactive, allowing those who did show to simply vote out people when they didn't come. The predictability and season twist inevitably ruined the season, but at the very least, it ended on a deserving winner, whether people like to admit it or not. Season Ranking: 9/13.

Winner: KirbsAsianPersuasion, 4-3Kirb was one of those players who started out laying low, and then went guns blazing after the merge. Except, he was INCREDIBLY inactive during the first half of the game! He was lucky enough to not be voted out by Gevolg for being useless!
However, once the merge hit, he started showing up again, during a time when many cast members went inactive. He formed a strong trio with Cato2000 and Bloosonic123, and they took out threat after threat, whenever they didn't show up. Once only the trio and Bright remained, he convinced Bloo to backstab Cato, and then after winning the Final Immunity, backstabbed Bloo as well, taking the inactive Bright to the Finale. Although the Jury disliked his cutthroat attitude and personally liked Bright more, they respected his strategic gameplay and awarded him the win 4-3. |
Runner-Up: BrightEyes101, 3-4Unlike Kirb, Bright was more active during the first half than the merge, usually being a part of key votes for Gevolg. Being a very well-liked member in the community, nobody really wanted to vote her off. Unfortunately, once the tribes merged, she stopped showing up, allowing other players to steamroll the season. While many of her allies were voted out, she was spared for being viewed as the ultimate floater, making many want to bring her to the end for an easy win. Eventually she made it to the Finale, thanks to Kirb, and nearly won, due to having many friends on the Jury. On a personal level, I would have preferred to see her win, but gameplay wise, Kirb deserved it more for his strategic maneuvering through the merge.
