Young's Survivor Season Opinions
Survivor S2: Malaysia
Malaysia was definitely my most experimental season ever, introducing many brand new twists and trying different things to see what works well. The main twist was the split seasons twist, where the cast was split into two seasons of sixteen players each, which would merge once there were eight players remaining in each season. The first season, Borneo, featured two Heroes Tribes, and the second season, Pulau Islands, featured two Villains Tribes. At the first merge, the Borneo tribes would face off against the Pulau Islands tribes. Although it was interesting in design, it failed in execution, since the large cast allowed for many inactives to get cast, although most were gone by the time the first merge came. Another big twist was Tribe Leaders, the people from each tribe with the best application would lead their tribe in challenges. They would decide who from their tribe would win each week's reward if they won it, and could receive a Tribe Idol, which could be used to save an eliminated contestant after the votes have been read, and cancel the week's results. The Tribe Idol was never used, though, as it had a secret power, where if the holder made it to the first merge, their Tribe Idol would become a Special Idol, which can be played on anybody, and cause the person with the next most votes to be eliminated instead. The Special Idol was obviously more appealing, so the Tribe Leaders opted for that instead. Smaller twists later on included the Nega-Vote, which revoked one vote against a player at Tribal Council, the Friendship Idol, which was a nerfed Idol that could only be played on another player, a Pick a Juror reward, allowing the winner to make any previously eliminated contestant a Juror, and the infamous Extra Vote, which allowed a player to vote twice. Note that Malaysia happened BEFORE the Extra Vote officially appeared in Survivor U.S.!! With all these twists, contestants had many opportunities to shake up the game, although it was fairly calm until the merge, where two factions fought against each other for power, even forcing two Rock Draws, until eventually MikeTheMagnific's side won, and made it to the Finale. Despite the strong gameplay, Timewarpagain's side was very bitter over their loss, resulting in a less-than-deserving winner. Despite this, it was a great season, and paved the way for future season twists. It also could have ended in any of the Final Three winning, depending on who took fourth. Season ranking: 5/13.
Winner: Phorix, 5-3-1Phorix is an interesting winner, in that he actually joined the season late, and was the last Villain standing, while not being around for the first half of the game.
However, he kept strong relationships with the Jurors, allowing him to coast by without worrying about being voted off. He even had to go to TWO Rock Draws and STILL SURVIVED! Once he made it to the Finale, he just had to sit back and woo the Jurors to his side, and let them bark at the others for their aggressive gameplay. Not the most deserving, but he still deserved it in his own special way. |
Runner-Up: MikeTheMagnific, 3-5-1MikeTheMagnific definitely deserved this season's jury vote. He maintained dominance over his tribe during the pre-merge phases, and kept a strong grip on his alliance during the merge stage. He led his crew through two Rock Draws, and by luck, defeated the opposing alliance led by Timewarpagain. After winning the Final Immunity and guaranteeing himself a seat at the Finale, it seemed set for him to win. However, Time led a Jury Opposition for Phorix to win, causing a shocking and bitter defeat. Had he gotten Phorix out instead of Coolpokemonfan2001, he would've won.

Second Runner-Up: B34STS, 1-5-3B34STS is similar to Phorix, in that he wasn't initially cast, and joined late, almost at the same time Phorix did. However, he quickly got adopted into MikeTheMagnific's alliance for his likability, and he rode with them to the end. He never really took any control during the game, and pretty much rode Mike's coattails to get to the end. However, he would have won had Mike lost the Final Immunity and been voted off. Regardless, he coasted to the end and paled in comparison to Mike's gameplay and Phorix's jury management.
