Young's Survivor Season Opinions
Survivor S8: Japan
After long hiatus following India, I brought back Survivor with Japan.
Originally intended to be a 24-person season with four tribes, plans were cut short due to a lack of appliers.
Instead, it became a 17-person MERGED season. No tribes, a complete free-for-all. It was also based on Black's LS1, with all the challenges being designed or based around that season's challenges. Also, unlike previous seasons, many challenges were built specifically for the season, and was probably the first season to actually have effort put into building challenges. This season also introduced Idol Challenges, where if a player won, they would immediately receive an Immunity Idol. This was also the very first season to introduce Idols hidden around camp, which were mainly found by BostonRobMariano, Timewarpagain, and Brandonthestick. There was also a Special Idol, which could be played after the votes have been read, also found by Time. There was also a big change-up regarding replacements. If a player was removed for having too many strikes, the PREVIOUSLY eliminated contestant would rejoin to replace them. Although it gave people an incentive to vote out inactives, it backfired as it caused big players to get massacred as a result of the bitter players returning. There were also weeks where there were planned False Eliminations, though it only dragged the season along and gave people too many chances. Oh, and there was a Medallion of Power, but nobody ever used it. When nine players remained, there would be a temporary tribe phase, though it was only for that week.
Lastly, when only seven players remained, there was a right to stay challenge, where the player who fared the worst would instantly leave the game, causing the Jury goat PositivelyHanad to be sadly eliminated.
Despite all the twists and changes, the season basically revolved around getting out the biggest threat at the time, causing floaters or inactives to coast by to the end while the bigger threats battled it out. There was also a controversial moment where I accidentally miscounted the vote, and XxshortcrusherxX was wrongfully eliminated as a result, though he immediately rejoined when I realized my error. However, it ruined the tribal where llConnorll was supposed to be blindsided and caused many people's plans to be set back. Eventually, an enraged Connor fought for his right to stay, and managed to take out each and every opposing threat left in the game. However, he was cut at fifth place for being the next biggest threat remaining, leaving only coasters and inactives. Although it did end on a deserving winner, it was a poor Final Three; even the top four was disappointing! A season with high hopes, but inevitibly became a game of voting out the best player until there were no good players left. Season ranking: 8/13.

Winner: Losingdogs, 4-2-2Losingdogs was really similar to KirbsAsianPersuasion in that he started out really inactive, but started showing up about half-way through and started working with whoever showed up to take out the biggest threats in the game. He managed to win an Idol Challenge, though wasted it on the Right to Stay challenge right afterwards to guarantee his safety. Because Rad was aligned with so many people, he was never in danger until only four players remained, where the incredibly inactive XxshortcrusherxX won the Final Immunity, forcing either him, Curtis_Granderson, or Tonytonychopper64 to leave. Although he originally wanted Grander to leave, he switched to Tony after it tied 1-1-1, as Tony tried to blindside Rad. Once making it to the end, he easily won as he was the only finalist who could really say they did anything. Deserved it over the other finalists, but poor winner overall.

Runner-Up: Curtis_Granderson, 2-4-2Curtis_Granderson was probably the most active of the finalists, though he still wasn't that active. Whenever he showed up, he usually just coasted and went with whatever his allies were doing at the time. He played incredibly loyally, though he could've been compared to a sheep. Made no attempts to play for himself and ended up dragged to the end for it, where despite nearly winning for being loyal and somewhat active, lost out for a lack of blood. For a long-time group veteran, I was really hoping to see him finally pull out a win, though he just didn't fight hard enough for it, sadly.

Runner-Up: XxshortcrusherxX, 4-2-2XxshortcrusherxX really shouldn't have made it to the end, and I really mean that in the sense he wasn't supposed to be in the Final Three... Inactive in the start, he probably showed up the least of all the players in the season. When he finally started showing up, he made a really poor choice and voted for himself, causing a tie after Timewarpagain played his Special Idol and saved himself, and Short left 6-1 against llConnorll. However, as I later realized, it didn't actually tie, and Connor was supposed to leave 3-2 instead of a tie, so Short rejoined as compensation. However, Short just didn't come anymore, and was dragged to the end. Once making Final Four, the others made a pact to vote out Short as the Final Juror, but Connor played for Short in the Final Immunity and ending up winning, so Short made it to the end anyways. Although he got a few votes, nobody could really come up with a good reason to vote for him. Even Short wanted to just quit and make it a F2 since he knew he didn't deserve it, but stayed and tied for Runner-Up. Sigh, at least he's a much better player now...
